NAIC LOGO 2015

Welcome to year 4 of the National Audit of Intermediate Care (NAIC 2015)

Quote from Professor John Young. National Clinical Director for Integration & Frail Elderly, NHS England has said.

“Intermediate care services act as a critical sense check of whole system integrity and performance for ‘at risk’ older people. Yet they remain curiously invisible to commissioners, managers and the general population. The success, or otherwise, of the New Models of care, and other current whole system initiatives, will depend upon capacity building in the intermediate tier”

National Audit of Intermediate Care (NAIC) 2015: Feedback

If you took part in NAIC we would greatly value your feedback about NAIC 2015 and would ask that you complete a short survey which should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete.

We would like to express our thanks for your continued support of NAIC, and particularly to you and the teams who collected the data for the audit.

Support for the NAIC

HQIP

The Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP) has announced that the NAIC is to be included on the 2015/16 Quality Accounts list once again. It is mandatory for NHS Trusts to produce a quality account every year which details the provider’s participation in clinical audit. This means that providers must participate in NAIC, unless they have a sound rationale for not doing so. For more information about HQIP and Quality Accounts, including the reference to the relevant legislation, please see the Statutory and mandatory requirements for Clinical Audit guidance on the HQIP webpages.

NHS England

In addition, NHS England has endorsed the audit and encouraged CCGs and Providers to take part in NAIC 2014. A letter from NHS England expressing their support for participation in NAIC 2014 has been included in the marketing pack and is available here.

Reference costs

The Department of Health last year worked with the NHS to produce reference costs for intermediate care services. We are pleased to report that DH has referenced extensively the work of the NAIC, and that the reference costs guidance aligns with the NAIC definitions. For providers of intermediate care services, this should mean that they are applying the same principles for the reference costs as for NAIC. The latest guidance on the reference costs for intermediate care can be accessed here.

Care Act 2014 Guidance

The new Care Act 2014 guidance states that the NAIC will assist Local Authorities with understanding their provision of, and progressing local strategies around, “Preventing, reducing or delaying needs”. The guidance be accessed here
