Managing Frailty in the Acute Settings - Wessex Frailty Audit workshop

The Managing Frailty in the Acute Settings workshop will provide a Wessex AHSN regional interpretation of the “Managing Frailty and DToC in acute settings” benchmarking project that will assist the AHSN with providing a stocktake of how frailty is managed across the acute sector through benchmarked comparisons.

What to expect

Delegates will hear the findings from the Managing Frailty in the Acute Setting project, as well as the Wessex Frailty Audit findings. Throughout the day, facilitated group work sessions will explore what the findings mean for Trusts on an individual basis as well as a cohort within the Wessex constituency.

Who should attend

Geriatricians, Frailty Specialists, Trust Senior Management Teams, Transformation Teams and Older People MDT’s from Acute Trusts in the Wessex AHSN are all welcome.

Registration will predominantly be by invitation, but interested parties can also register via the members’ area soon.

Wales Planned Care, Outpatients & Theatres conference

The NHSBN Support Team will be delivering a cut of the Planned Care, Outpatients & Theatres findings for Welsh members on Thursday 4th April in Cardiff.

We will also be welcoming Good Practice case studies from our membership. If you are interested in sharing your activity and presenting the improvements in your service, we would be delighted to hear from you.

There are a maximum of ten spaces per University Health Board, and registration will be available via the members’ area. Please note, this is a Wales only event.

NHS Benchmarking Outpatients & Planned Care Findings Conference

The Network presented a joint conference for the provider and commissioner projects.

New for the 2017/18 work programme, the Outpatients project has taken a strategic overview of outpatient departments. For the commissioning sector, the Planned Care project provided a strategic overview of the level of investment and activity in planned care, and approaches to demand management.

At the conference, Network Director- Claire Holditch, and Project Manager- Jessica Grantham presented the key findings from the first iteration of the project. 

We are delighted that National Director for Clinical Quality and Efficiency- Tim Briggs, and Andi Thornton representing Cambridge University Hospitals, presented national and local updates respectively.

We are also grateful to Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Foundation Trust, and East Sussex Healthcare Trust who shared their good practice and innovation.

NHS Benchmarking Delayed Transfers of Care Findings Conference

The Older People’s Care in Acute Settings project was reformatted this year to focus specifically on delayed transfers of care and the discharge process from the acute setting.

At the conference, Network Director- Claire Holditch, and Programme Manager- Debbie Hibbert presented the key findings from the first iteration of the project.

At the conference, Dwayne Johnson, Director of Social Care and Health, Sefton Council provided the Keynote Address, followed by NHS England's Deputy Head of Planning Delivery- Tom Luckraft presenting their national programme and planning for DToC. 

We were delighted to welcome three good practice speakers: Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, Southern Health & Social Care Trust, and Medway NHS Foundation Trust.

2017 Benchmarking & Good Practice in Acute Therapies Conference

This years' conference took place in a new venue in London, at the De Vere West One, on Wednesday 11th October. 

The conference provided members with the opportunity hear the findings from all four specialities (SaLT, Dietetics, Physio, OT) projects, as well as a chance to meet fellow participants from each project.

Members were also invited to present good practice and share innovation from each speciality.

2017 Benchmarking & Good Practice in Urgent & Emergency Care Services Conference

The 2017 Urgent & Emergency Care Conference took place on Wednesday 4th October at the Hallam Conference Centre (London).

Delegates learned the initial results from the 2017 iteration of the Emergency Care project, presented by Network Director- Steve Watkins; and the Urgent Care project, presented by Project Manager- Jessica Grantham. We were also joined by sector professionals and members presenting good practice case studies.

2017 Benchmarking & Good Practice in Radiology Services Conference

This years' Radiology Conference took place on Wednesday 27th September at etc. Venues, St Paul’s (London). We heard from an excellent line-up of speakers, including NCD for Diagnostics & Imaging - Tony Newman-Sanders.

In addition, Network Director- Steve Watkins presented the key findings from the 2017 iteration of the benchmarking project. The report for Radiology will be available in November. We were also joined by Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust and North West Anglia Foundation Trust who shared good practice and innovation.
