The Network’s mental health data is amongst the most complete in the world and describes the characteristics of the UK’s demand for mental health care and the provision arrangements put in place by the NHS.
The Network are collaborating with the analytics and benchmarking services of other OECD nations to explore issues around international standards and performance in mental health care. The results from this collaboration will be shared with members later this year. As part of this process the NHS Benchmarking Network mental health team, colleagues from the Department of Health and NHS England, met with the national benchmarking institute, associated provider forums and national standards organisations in the Netherlands.
Discussions included sharing approaches on policy, analytics, and quality standards. Colleagues from the Netherlands were impressed by the coverage of NHS mental health services and the depth of data available for benchmarking. The UK team heard about a range of good practice in the Netherlands including; the availability of outcomes data for all mental health patients, existence of clear quality standards, and a national commitment to transparency in information sharing.
