Corporate Functions

The financial pressures facing the NHS and the scrutiny following on from the Lord Carter review have created incentive for NHS bodies to review their corporate functions services.

The Corporate Functions benchmarking project covers the provision and management of corporate functions. It has been one of the Network's longest running projects.

Relevant to all providers, subscribing members receive:

  • Access to a benchmarking toolkit, allowing you to benchmark your service across hundreds of metrics
  • A bespoke dashboard report outlining key messages and metrics, which compares your local position against nationally reported positions
  • A high-level report outlining key messages and metrics for corporate functions nationally
  • Savings schemes compendium to identify other areas where savings may be identified.

2017/18 benchmarking project

In 2017, 97 organisations participated in the project.

The Network is pleased to see NHS Improvement acknowledging the importance of Corporate Functions and its developing work to support Trusts in this area (in England).

Given this work, the Network will not be running its own Corporate Functions project in 2018, however, will continue to work alongside NHS Improvement and members to support Trusts in this vital area.

For queries about this project, please contact Chris McAuley.

Corporate benchmarking data from the NHS Benchmarking Network is an essential tool for our organisation. It has enabled us to better understand our corporate functions. With this knowledge we have been able to set and realise both cost improvement savings in some areas and evidence the case for investment in others. The ability to talk to other Trusts via the Network and unpick examples of best practice has also been invaluable.
