British Geriatrics Society: Spring 2019 meeting

The BGS Spring meeting will cover the latest scientific research and the best clinical practice in care of older people. Our ageing population is stimulating extensive NHS service redesign to deal with the challenge of caring for larger numbers of older people both in and out of hospitals. This conference will cover core areas of interest to all specialists responsible for the health care of older people in the United Kingdom.

The Positive Deviance Approach workshop

The Positive Deviance Approach: Learning from exceptional performers to improve the quality and safety of care.

WORKSHOP AIMS:
•To share and discuss our findings about how positively deviant healthcare teams succeed
•To explore the methods that can be used to apply the positive deviance approach within healthcare organisations
•To discuss how your own organisations could apply the positive deviance approach to improve the quality and safety of care

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Organisations tasked with improvement who have access to performance data, e.g. National Audit Teams, AHSNs, Patient Safety Collaboratives, CCGs, CLAHRCs and NHS Improvement.

The Yorkshire Quality and Safety Research group (Bradford Institute For Health Research), The Centre for Health Economics (University of York), and The National Audit of Intermediate Care (NHS Benchmarking Network).

The AGM was an opportunity for the Network Steering Group to report to the Network membership on progress against the Network’s objectives, the membership, the financial position and the future strategy and work programme of the Network.

Regional workshops

The Network held four, free regional benchmarking workshops in May. The programme focused on how to use the Network projects for service improvements, and provided a whole system regional view of unscheduled care. The workshops were attended by colleagues from 128 NHS organisations, and received excellent feedback and suggestions for future projects and events.
