The NHS Benchmarking Network Emergency Care Programme is now in its 15th year, providing a comprehensive UK-wide overview of emergency care services, including Type 1 & 2 emergency departments and Type 3 urgent care centres. Since its inception in 2012, the programme has built a rich evidence base to support service improvement, benchmarking, and best practice sharing.
This dataset provides participating organisations with a valuable benchmark against peer services and insight into performance trends across emergency care provision.
By summarising key performance metrics, the programme supports service development, operational planning, and quality improvement, helping organisations deliver safe, effective, and high-quality emergency care across the UK.

Key Themes:
"ED has utilised data from the previous benchmarking reports to inform not only service improvement ideas such as improving handover delays, but also the data such as the length of time spent in ED, supports the development of business cases when required."
